Forman Vineyards Chardonnay
Forman Vineyards makes a very small amount of impeccably crafted Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay in the Eastern hills of Napa Valley, a few Miles North of wineries like Screaming Eagle and Bryant Family. Crafted by Ric Forman, these wines are the very personal expressions of more than 3 decades of winemaking experience, and in our opinion, they are among a handful of the very best wines made in the United States. We recently spent some time with Ric's wife and asked her if they used any herbicides, or chemicals in their vineyards. She replied, "of course not, we live there!" Exactly.
Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay
Shafer has long been leaders in sustainable agriculture and environmentally-friendly practices, and were the first winery in the world to rely solely on solar energy. Their Chardonnay strikes a nice balance between European and Californian styles. A restrained use of oak, the absence of malolactic fermentation and use of natural yeast work together to let the pure, cool climate Carneros fruit shine through. Full-bodied and structured with healthy tannins wrapped around a core of ripe black fruit and a healthy bit of oak.
