Berger Zwelgelt
Auersthal is just barely beyond Vienna’s northern suburbs, in a sleepy village in the Weinviertel. Hofer belongs to a group called Bio-Ernte which has standards above the EU guidelines. This Zweigelt comes in a liter size, it's light, vibrant and happy go lucky.
Berger Gruner Veltliner
Erich Berger has provided Kremstal and Austria with a reference point for simple quality white wine. His 18 hectare estate makes at least a half dozen tasty wines, but the popular favorite is his crown-capped liter bottle Gruner Veltliner, a wine that gives a clear picture of the exuberant, flavor-laden possibilites of this essentially Austrian varietal. Erich and Maria Berger bottle over 5,000 cases of wine per annum, but still supply remains sporadic. A nose of green bean and herbs...in a white wine? Sounds strange but it has lime and stone fruit as well, thirst quenching, great chilled.
Birgit Eichinger Gruner Veltliner Wechselberg
The winery was founded in 1992 by Birgit Eichinger and her husband Christian. Her "Less is More" natural principle and her passion and dedication come through in her wines. Wechselberg site is located higher on the south facing slope. It's one of her driest Gruner Veltliner. The wine shows spice and tropical fruit notes on the nose, with apple and a bit of white pepper on the palate. Beautiful acidity with long finish.
