From one of the oldest producers of Barolo, this Barbera. The wine is deep ruby-red in color with purple tinges and opens with bright aromas of summer flowers and red cherry. It follows with the cherry, blackberry, black pepper and mineral flavors and finishes with healthy tannins and nice lift from refreshing acidity.
We're becoming quick fans of the Scarbolo wines. Valter Scarbolo inherited his land and passion for wine from his father. He tends to his 25 hectares and cellar to make a wide array of wines both red and white. This Italian Sauvignon Blanc is intense with tropical fruits, peach, and sage with a soft creamy texture in the mouth and generous structure and pleasant minerality. Winemaking Details: aged on lees for 6 months with frequent batonnages, 24 hour skin maceration
The family-owned winery dates back to 1880 when a jealous neighbor set fire to the estate, hence the name – "bruciata" means "burned". Charismatic winemaker Francesco Baravalle stopped into the store to share his wonderful wines. This nebbiolo really won us over with its pretty nose of ripe red fruit, rose petals, and minty herbs. Medium and delicate in body, but well concentrated and bright in acid makes this a perfect match for food.
We love this stuff and so does everyone we recommend this to. Not only is it affordable Nebbiolo, it's complex too. This producer is nestled on the ridge of a hill in the town of Barbaresco. They make traditional style wines in small quantities. When the budget doesn't allow for Barolo or Barbaresco, try this. Muscular, dark and lean with hints of tar.
This historical Friulian Estate is strictly a family business. The policy of the estate was from the beginning to work only with indigenous varieties, such as Ribolla Gialla. The grapes are fermented and aged in stainless steel. Aromas of white pear and fresh hey. It has creamy texture and offers bright acidity with long finish.
Masciarelli is the largest organically farmed Estate in Italy. This everyday charmer is a nice marriage of old and new world styles. It has a bit of earthiness in an old world way, but plenty of fruit to please just about anyone! It has a slightly smoky and dusty nose with dark berries and leather. Cherries, blackberries and chocolate round out the palate. This is a great "house wine" to have around for meals and friends.
Winemaking Details: Stainless Steel Tank Fermentation.
We're excited to get this beauty in the store! The vineyards are located on steep, black volcanic slopes of Mount Vulture in Northern Basilicata, where high altitudes produce wines with excellent structure and complexity. Dark purple in the glass, this wine is introduced with fresh cherry and strawberries on the nose before a rich palate of red fruit, white pepper, a hint of vanilla, and soft tannins. Winemaking Details: macerated for 15 days on the skins, aged for 1 year in second use barriques
Denavolo is the small personal winery of Giulio Armani, the long-time winemaker of La Stoppa. Located in Rivergaro (Part of Emilia IGT) Giulio's 8 acre estate produces white wines, or perhaps more accurately, orange wines. This is a great "entry level" orange wine, with a lovely, floral nose of orange blossom and honeysuckle, followed by stone fruits on the palate, bolstered by noticeable tannins from the 4-days of skin contact this wine sees. We can't wait to see how many foods we can pair this with! Winemaking Details: 4 days skin contact
Casina di Cornia is a small farmhouse resting on a rural twenty-four hectares in the rolling hills of Castellina Chianti (Siena), and was restored in 1979 by Antoine Luginbühl and his wife Francine Dufour. Farming organically and using a hands-off approach to winemaking allows them to make wines that are beautifully unadulterated. This Chianti Classico has a bouquet of berries, prunes and cinnamon. On the palate, it is fresh and ripe with balanced tannins and acidity, making it a great match with traditional Italian cuisine.
Bright floral red fruit from beautiful Liguria. Light bodied, aromatic and like a vacation in a bottle. Delicate and soft with earth and mineral. A perfect summer red and seafood-friendly!
