Tiburzi Colle Scancellato
This is wine makes friends easily, and it won us over from the first sip. Made mostly from Sangiovese, it has bright cherry fruit and just enough acidity to go with dinner. It's also one of the best values in the store. Winemaking Details: Unfiltered
Palazzone Orvieto
Palazzone cultivates the indigenous grape varieties allowed in the Orvieto D.O.C., namely Procanico, Verdello, Grechetto, Drupeggio and Malvasia Toscana. They do not use insecticides or fungicides in their vineyards and are judicial in the amount of sulfur added to their wines. Word has it on the rough tough streets of Brooklyn that a good Orvieto has hints of almonds on the nose and a palate of white summer flowers. This is it...word.
Villa Fiore Pinot Grigio
Villa Fiore is made in the Friuli Grave D.O.C. in Northern Italy by a small, family-run estate who also makes our popular Villa Marchesi Pinot Noir. They have been growing grapes for generations, have always practiced organic farming (which they just call farming) and have been making wine since 1960. The wine is surprisingly complex with distinctive aromas that range from herbaceous and minerally to floral and fruity. Flavors are characterized by ripe apricot, peach, melon and a bit of mineral. Winemaking Details: Stainless Steel Tank Fermentation
Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Masciarelli is the largest organically farmed Estate in Italy. This everyday charmer is a nice marriage of old and new world styles. It has a bit of earthiness in an old world way, but plenty of fruit to please just about anyone! It has a slightly smoky and dusty nose with dark berries and leather. Cherries, blackberries and chocolate round out the palate. This is a great "house wine" to have around for meals and friends. Winemaking Details: Stainless Steel Tank Fermentation
Fuso Verdicchio
This is a mighty friendly wine. A zippy, green apple, tangerine, lime and mineral glass of happiness. The vines are grown on an ancient raised sea bed of clay, iron and mineral salts, and you can taste a hint of the sea on the finish. Winemaking Details: Aged in Tank
Boira Pinot Grigio
From a certified organic producer whose Pinot Grigio vines grow in limestone-rich soils, giving the wine a compelling mineral edge. This is as any good Pinot Grigio should be: crisp and dry but with a little more complexity than the run of the mill stuff.
Ciro Picariello Campania Rosso
An Aglianico starter from a family owned vineyard situated at 2100 feet above sea level right outside of Naples. Blended with two other indigenous grapes all grown in clay rich soil with plenty of sun. Temperature variation in the fall slowly matures these grapes and produces a well-balanced wine with black cherry, wet earth and a touch of tannins topped off with a faint prickle. A great introduction to the star grape of the South
Villa Marchesi Pinot Noir
The signs are in German AND Italian in these parts of Northern Italy, and they grow all sorts of different grape varieties, including Pinot Nero. This example has great balance of raspberry and almost ripe strawberry fruit with Alpine freshness then a touch of earth on the finish. It's a tad floral too. Almost everyone we've tasted this with is astonished at the quality for the bargain price tag.
Colle Moro Alianto Pecorino
Another obscure grape, which makes a full-bodied white wine from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Quite rich with honey hay and citrus on the nose. The palate has some nutty, caramel notes but finishes dry, with moderate acid and alcohol. This is an Intriguing wine to be sure, from the old school. Winemaking Details: Wild Yeast Fermentation
De Forville Dolcetto
Classic ripe Dolcetto fruit with delicate acidity, bright rasberry fruit and a teeny weeny bit of tannin. This is a great food wine for a great price from Neal Rosenthal. Enough said!
