La Ca Nova Langhe Nebbiolo
The ancient home and vineyards of La Ca'Nova are nestled on top of a hill in the town of Barbaresco. This is Piedmont, perhaps the most famous wine region in Italy, and Pietro, Giulio, and Franco Rocca, make beautiful wines here from Nebbiolo. Their family has been making wine here for many generations, and they do not expose their grapes to any chemical treatment out of tradition more than trend. We love this stuff and so does almost everyone we recommend it to. In addition to being less expensive than Barolo or Barbaresco, it's ready to drink tonight. Muscular, dark and lean with hints of autumn leaves, wood smoke, violets and tar, this is textbook Nebbiolo which is really hard to find at this price point. Perfect with heavier fall and winter dishes like braised chicken thighs and a classic pairing with truffle dishes, this will please both wine geeks, and your neighbor who just wants something tasty to drink "as long as it's red."
