Big Value Wines for the Big Game
It's the Superbowl, and just for this weekend, we'll stop calling them the "New Jersey" Giants and root for the home team! Fair weather fans or not, what better way to gear up for the big game than with big format wines. We've got magnums of two of our favorites (1 magnum = 2 bottles) standing by for your Superbowl party needs.
First up is the Palazzone Orvieto ($21.99). This lovely white wine is named after the Italian city Orvieto, which is perched high on a large butte of volcanic rock. It is a blend of indigenous grapes, including Procanico, Verdello, Grechetto, Drupeggio and Malvasia Toscana. Hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel, the wine is clean and precise with flavors of citrus and white peach and a hint of almond on the nose. It is well-made, organically farmed and a fitting drink to get you through half-time.
Now for the second half. Masciarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo ($23.99) is what we drink at home more often than any the wine in the store. The producer, Masciarelli, is the largest organically farmed estate in Italy, and the wine is delicious, easy to enjoy and refreshingly uncomplicated. A nice marriage of old and new world styles, it has a bit of smoky earthiness, but plenty of cherry and blackberry fruit to please just about anyone who isn't a Patriots fan!
We also have The New York Times favorite, From The Tank Cotes Du Rhone Red ($40.99), 3 liter box wines which equals four bottles, as well as some great 1 liter choices. So you've got more options than Brady has receivers!
At every Superbowl party we've ever been to, there are rotating shifts at the TV: the crew who watch the game, and the crew who watch the commercials. No matter which half is in the kitchen for a refill, you'll have plenty of wine that everyone will love!
